What Is a Wall Mounted Split System?

A wall mounted split system is one of the most popular air conditioning solutions for Australian homes and apartments. It consists of two main components:

an indoor unit mounted high on an interior wall and an outdoor unit installed outside the building. The two units are connected by insulated refrigerant pipes, electrical wiring, and a condensate drain.

Unlike ducted air conditioning, which cools or heats an entire house through concealed ductwork, a split system is designed to condition one room or one open living area at a time. How Does a Split System Work?

A reverse-cycle split system works by transferring heat rather than generating it.

During summer, the indoor unit absorbs heat from inside your home and transfers it to the outdoor unit, where it is released into the outside air. Cool air is then circulated back into the room.

In winter, the process reverses. The outdoor unit extracts heat from the outside air even on cold days and transfers it indoors, providing efficient heating.

Modern inverter technology continuously adjusts compressor speed to maintain a comfortable temperature while reducing electricity consumption.
